The Registrar of Voters office was briefly evacuated Monday — the day before the general election — after someone discovered an unattended briefcase in the lobby, authorities said.
Someone notified sheriff’s dispatchers just before 2:20 p.m. that the item had been in the lobby since at least 1:45 p.m., sheriff’s Lt. Paul Michalke said.
The sheriff’s bomb/arson team responded to the scene, although it was not clear what time they were called. San Diego police were asked to shut
