Trump pressures Israel into ceasefire deal with Hezbollah
Israel and Hezbollah have agreed to a ceasefire after the continued fighting in Lebanon threatened to derail Donald Trump’s agreement with Iran.
Negotiations on the next phase of that deal had been due to start in Switzerland on Friday, but they were postponed with Iran complaining that Israel’s offensive breached the memorandum of understanding signed this week.
The terms of the agreement, perceived by many as favourable to Iran, have come under fire in the US and Israel.

Starmer faces calls to resign after Burnham Makerfield win
This weekend Keir Starmer is talking to his cabinet, his staff and Labour MPs as it seems his premiership is hanging by a thread.
Andy Burnham’s blowout victory in Makerfield has delivered the promised hope to at least one group of people: Labour MPs who were despondent about their future – Reform no longer looks unassailable.
For now an uneasy standoff has developed with Burnham and his allies saying they are giving the Prime Minister time to consider his future, while Keir Starmer

The result came just after 3am in a hot and crowded events venue across the canal from Wigan Pier.
By that time, most of us in the room knew the outgoing Mayor of Greater Manchester would be heading back to Westminster.
The whispered briefings from his allies had become increasingly confident in the previous hours as the votes were being counted.
‘Wow moment’

It’s one of the world’s best known trees, famed for sheltering Robin Hood and his band of merry men as they fled the Sheriff of Nottingham.
But now the Major Oak – which has stood for more than a thousand years in Sherwood Forest – is no more: a victim of too many tourists and not enough rain.

Carbuncle Cup: which new building has been crowned worst in the UK?
Previous winners have included Liverpool’s Ferry Terminal and the Walkie Talkie in London. This isn’t a prize for good design though, it’s the Carbuncle Cup, an award for the worst new building in the UK.
Members of the public can nominate whatever structure they want and it’s not just about aesthetics, it’s about how these buildings affect the communities around them.

Late last night the US government took the dramatic step of issuing an order limiting access to the latest Anthropic AI model, called Fable, for all non-American nationals, including those that worked on it – claiming it was for national security reasons.

In the last few minutes Donald Trump has claimed a deal to end the Iran war is due to be signed tomorrow – adding that “hopefully, it will all work out quickly and smoothly”.
